Liverpool became John Lennon Airport in 2001, the first UK airport named after an individual. The terminal carries the line “Above us only sky”.
On the Mersey estuary
The airport sits at Speke, on the north bank of the Mersey south east of the city centre - close enough to the water that the approach runs over the estuary.
Quieter than Manchester
