A ceramic coating is hangar work.

It is not a wash. The conditions have to be right for it to cure.

A coating cures onto the paint, and it needs steady conditions to do it – out of the wind, out of direct sun, and away from dust and damp. On an open stand you control none of that, so this is a hangar job. Yours, or one we arrange.

The other reason is size. A coating has to be levelled off before it flashes, and on a large airframe that means working it panel by panel so no area is left sitting long enough to dry high. High spots are the difference between a coating applied properly and one applied in a hurry, and a jet gives you a lot of surface to get that wrong on.

A repaint runs into six figures on a midsize jet and takes the aircraft off line for weeks. Anything that slows the paint down on the way there is buying time on an expensive clock.

UV is what wears a finish out. An aircraft parked outside is under it all day, and oxidation starts at the surface and works down. A coated surface takes that first.

Dirt comes off more easily afterwards. Exhaust staining, insect residue and brake dust still land on it – they just release with less work, so every clean after this one is quicker and gentler on the paint underneath.

How we approach a ceramic coating.

Three stages, a few weeks apart.

01

Preparation

We clean the aircraft and, in almost every case, polish it before anything is coated. The coating goes on over whatever is there, so the paint wants to be at its best first. On a brand new aircraft we would still recommend a gloss enhancement at the least.

02

Coating

We coat the whole aircraft, working through it in the right order and the right conditions so the coating cures properly onto the paintwork and is levelled off everywhere before it flashes.

03

Test wash, then upkeep

A few weeks later, once the coating has fully cured, we come back and do a test wash. From there we put you on a maintenance plan, so the aircraft is kept on top of and washed the way a coated finish should be.
