A jet does not get dirty the way anything else does.

Most of what marks it comes out of the back of the aeroplane.

The pattern is consistent across types. APU exhaust marks the tail and upper rear fuselage, engine efflux stains the aft belly, and carbon brake dust coats the wheels and gear legs on every landing.

None of it is difficult while it is fresh. Left across a season it bonds, and what was a wash becomes paint correction - on a finish that costs six figures to replace on a midsize airframe.

It starts at the tail.

APU exhaust. The auxiliary power unit runs on the ground, at the gate, with the aircraft stationary - so it deposits straight onto the tail and upper rear fuselage rather than being carried away in the airflow.

Engine efflux. Aft-mounted engines stain the rear belly and the underside of the empennage. On a light jet that area is close to the ground and rarely inspected, which is why it is usually the worst part of the airframe.

Carbon brake dust. Deposited on wheels, gear legs and the inside of the gear bays on every landing. It is abrasive, and wiping it dry is how you scratch a gear leg.

De-icing fluid. Glycol residue dries sticky rather than washing off, then holds dust and grit against the surface all winter. It needs removing rather than being left to weather away.

The cabin. More soft furnishing, veneer and gloss trim than any other aircraft category, each wanting a different product - and a passenger turnover that puts hands on all of it, repeatedly.

The FAA lists washing as corrosion prevention in Advisory Circular 43-4B. On an airframe with this much of its own residue landing on it, that is not an abstract point.

Efflux off, belly degreased.

The finish a jet should be handed back in.

Drag the slider to compare. The underside is where the difference is always largest.

Light, midsize or large cabin.

The job scales with the airframe, and so should the price.

01

Light jets

Citation, Phenom, HondaJet and similar. Quick to work on, but the aft belly sits low and collects efflux - and it is the part nobody looks at until a buyer does.

02

Midsize

Challenger, Praetor, Citation Latitude. Enough surface that exterior work is a proper half day, and a cabin with real veneer and stone that needs matched products.

03

Large cabin

Gulfstream, Falcon, Global. Height means access equipment and more crew, and an interior where the wrong product on a trim panel is a genuinely expensive mistake.

04

Every one of them, on stand

We use a waterless dry wash for routine exterior work, so no wash bay or drainage is needed and the aircraft is cleaned where it is parked.

Downtime is the opportunity.

A jet sitting between trips can take a full exterior and a deep interior without anyone rearranging anything. A jet between legs can take a turnaround clean and not much else. Both are worth doing, at the right moment.

Coming out of maintenance is the other one. Hangar dust, handprints and boot marks come off in a redelivery clean timed to sign-off, before the aircraft goes back to whoever is paying for it.

And when there is no downtime at all, same-day cover is the normal case for us rather than an emergency service.

Work that suits what the aircraft is worth.

01

Products matched to the surface

Paint, veneer, stone, leather and gloss trim all want something different. The wrong choice on a jet interior is an expensive thing to correct.

02

Cleaned where it is parked

Hangar or stand, England-wide, same-day at nearly any airport. No repositioning the aircraft to get it cleaned.

A dated record afterwards

A photo report every visit - before and afters, what was done, and anything we noticed that you would want to know about.
